Introducing the ISL Network
When I was kid, the 90’s was my coming of age era. I was 10 years old in 1990. Bulletin Board Systems better known as BBS’s we the hip fad before the internet was yet dreamed upon.
I was quite privileged in my childhood with a high earning father and both parents overly encouraging creative ventures. I got into BBS’s running a Zeos tower that was frankensteined together with parts purchased by passionate parents and others I’d gone to computer shows-offering help to overloaded vendors in exchange for unsold RAM, video or sound cards they could spare that I desperately needed to upgrade my multi-node Renegade BBS.
I ran the Hellix bulletin board system in the Renegade pre-Lang era on a hyper-modified shell via localized hex editing out of South Florida from approximately 1990-1996 and was personally connected with the Dark Knight that set up the national Darknet BBS grid out of Pahokee Florida.
We ’shared’ files, a lot. We had Windows 93’ in 92’ before it was actually released.
A bit of pre-dating internet pirates we were.
We had all kinds of visual and audio download, things like graphic videos of Future Crew’s latest works, we were making digital music files before CD’s became popular, We somehow had naked pictures of Cindy Crawford circulating before camera phones and AI builds existed. The Draw was our go to for custom graffiti style ANSI/ASCii graphics incorporated into the BBS hex structure itself for some pretty wild customizations
The message boards were usually jumping off the walls, active live 1on1 and group chats engaged, with all 4 nodes firing simultaneously all night long at 2400-14.4k baud.
And when the traffic would finally cool down late morning AM.
Darknet would connect.
On dial up.
One of those nodes on the 14.4k was specifically dedicated for those automated 12pm daily data exchanges that could still be running when I got home from school. Daily message and file packets. Curiosities of wonder, “Oh look, Sid Meier’s Civilization hit the board today, more hits for us. It drops in stores next month!”
(Oh boy those 28.8k’s came not long after.)
(Then the Western Digital 1 gig drives dropped.)
Back when it was super cool if you had a 3.5 inch floppy.
More So if you had several thousands of them. 😛
The BBS’s and our Darknet evaporated to the early millenium AOL and Yahoo servers, Google sprouted not long after and a new style of dark-web was born.
I am still on that same Share thesis, but now, thirty-years later. We are no longer running a Darknet or sharing software or media we shouldn’t be. We are out in the open looking to use this background and knowledge to expose in a more formal way, the arts and creativity that lies within those who commit themselves.
Objective
I am looking to bring those networking affiliations here to InSerenity Literary and will soon be posting these individuals that I am locally working with to add to this page.
This listings will not strictly be related to my current literature/art/audio theme, this will be a promotional spot for all connected affiliates, local, domestic, and international as I have several world-wide contacts in various business and creative industries including major personal affiliates in Japan, Romania and Brazil that operate in anything from creative production to import/export to online marketplaces.
Lets help each other promote.
If you would like to join the ISL Network and have your venture displayed here, please use the button below to submit an email of contact and include the following :
